After Movie Ending Explained, What's Happened With Tessa and Hardin, Josephine Langford

Ending Explained

Tessa and Hardin are in London and Hardin finds her mother cheating on her husband hours before their wedding.

The man Trish cheated on is Hardy's father Ken's best friend Christian. After the wedding, Christian and Hardin talk and the former reveals that he is actually Hardin's biological father. Christian's pregnant girlfriend Kimberly also reveals the information to Tessa.

Tessa knows Hardy will need her, but she burns down her mother's house.

Hardin returns to their apartment in the US from London to clear out after pushing Tessa away. He is shocked to find his father dead after a drug overdose. Landon tells Hardin what happened and he returns to the States to be there for Tessa. After trying to push him away, the pair talk about how they're not right for each other.

Tessa's mother tells Hardin that the best thing he can do for Tessa is to leave her alone and disappear from her life. Hardin still sticks around to comfort Tessa, telling her after her father's funeral that he wants to be with her and change. Tessa tries to keep Hardy at a distance and tells him she wants nothing more to do with him.

Back in Seattle, Tessa talks to Kimberly and tells her she's moving to New York and getting a fresh start in her life. Ken and Hardin talk about Christian being Hardy's biological father and how Trish (Hardy's mother) has been lying to both of them all these years.

Meanwhile, Tessa visits her OB-GYN, who tells her that her chances of getting pregnant with her medical condition are slim to none.

Tessa is shocked to learn that she will never be able to carry her baby to full term. She returns to Christian's apartment and is visibly upset when he starts drinking. Hardin calls her and senses her concern. He sees her drunk by the pool and brings her to bed.

The next morning, Tessa breaks the news about her motherhood. Hardin somehow makes it about himself and Tessa is upset that he doesn't sympathize with her. He apologizes to Tessa and they make up.

At Ken's house, the family holds a farewell party for Landon before he leaves for New York. That evening, Tessa tells Hardin that she, too, has made up her mind and will be moving to New York. He states that he needs time away from Hardin because they only fight when they are together.

Hardin freaks out and lashes out at Landon for lying to him. Landon fires back, and Hardin storms out of the house, screaming so he won't be forgotten. Hardin tells Tessa it's nothing without hoping he can convince her to stay, but Tessa is adamant. He asks Hardin to promise not to follow him and to give him the time he needs. Hardin leaves.

Tessa Lives Normal Life

Tessa now lives a normal life in New York where she works as a waitress. Hardin is finishing college and has enrolled in an Alcoholics Anonymous support group. Reads Hardy's journal documenting his relationship with Tessa. Five months later, Hardin visits Landon in New York and meets Tessa at the hotel where he is waitressing. The former couple is trying to catch up. When his shift is over, Hardin asks Tessa and then Tessa finds Hardin waiting for her outside and they go home together.

They adjust to their new lives and eventually return to Lando's house. Hardin has a nightmare when Tessa finds him on the couch. Lies on the couch and helps him fall asleep. The next day, Tessa is horrified to find Hardy not waiting for her after Shift. As she walks home, Hardin follows and they walk home together.

Tessa tells Hardin that he looks different that night at dinner. A few days later, Tessa finds a transcript of Hardy's novel and reads it in full. After returning from a meeting, Tessa challenges him to use her life and story. They fight, and Hardin apologizes, stating that he never intended the novel to be published.

He reveals that there is a bidding war for his book, but Tessa is still angry about why he didn't ask her permission before violating her privacy. Hardin argues that their story is about unconditional love and forgiveness. He still can't forgive her and says it's over between them. Hardin gets a contract to publish his novel and is a hit with book fans.

Sequel
